Marine turtles and dugong of Torres Strait
Project 2.1
Project Leaders: Dr Mark Hamman and Professor Helene Marsh - JCU
The fifth annual survey of nesting turtles at Bramble Cay was conducted in December 2011. The trip was supported by the Erub community and involved researchers from James Cook University. AIMS, QDERM and rangers from the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA). Around 200 turtles were tagged, including 2 recaptures from previous surveys. The project aims to determine the status of marine turtles and dugongs in the Torres Strait, threats to these populations, and future monitoring needs.
