This project will partner the region’s key stakeholders to review, trial and evaluate the most effective governance systems and planning foundations for regional and landscape scale adaptation to climate change. In particular, within the context of these governance systems and planning arrangements, it will focus on the potential application of emerging ecosystem service markets to secure landscape scale resilience for biodiversity in the face of climate change.

Dr. Rosemary Hill is the Research Team Leader, Geography, Human Ecology and Sustainability Science Group at CSIRO Cairns. Dr. Hill is a human geographer specialising in collaborative environmental governance and planning research with communities at multiple scales to foster social-ecological sustainability, with a particular focus on Indigenous systems. Her research interests lie in strategic natural resource governance and planning, specialising in biodiversity, sustainability, Indigenous and protected areas.

Program 12 will have four projects designed to assist environmental managers, industry and Indigenous and community groups to manage the Wet Tropics bioregion. This is a complex and often highly contested landscape with many competing interests.
